PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Petrochemical industry - nickel and its alloys, titanium, molybdenum and cupronickel

Petrochemical industry

Petrochemical industry utilizes materials which are corrosion resistant, keep their mechanical and chemical properties in extreme temperatures and those that could be exposed to high pressures.

Nickel and its alloys are the most popular materials throughout the petrochemical sector. Nickel is mainly used as alloying element to produce heat-, acid-resistant or stainless steel. This metal is necessary to manufacture heating elements or electronic components, is extensively used in natural gas processing devices (i.e. valves), also as a material to produce borehole drilling tools.

As a result of good mechanical properties and great corrosion resistance, titanium with its alloys have found their involvement in the petrochemical industry. They are used for pumps, heat exchangers and a broad spectrum of other applications.

Molybdenum in petrochemical industry is used, among other applications, as a catalyst. Lastly, it is important to mention that this branch of industry commonly entails the use of cupronickel (especially 95/5).

WOLFTEN supplies products conforming to ASME specification related with materials exposed to high pressures.
