AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Automotive industry - titanium, nickel, tungsten

Automotive industry

Titanium, due to its excellent strength-to-mass ratio, becomes more and more popular material used across automotive industry. Considering relatively high price (in comparison with steel), titanium is rather used in motor sport division and high-end vehicles. Application of titanium alloy elements in internal combustion engines allows decreasing their weight, increasing efficiency and optimizing fuel consumption.

Nickel in automotive industry is mainly used as alloying element in Ni-Cr, Ni-Cr-Fe, Ni-Ti and Ni-Cu alloys. Ni-Cr and Ni-Cr-Fe alloys are used for components operating in high temperatures, elements of exhaust systems such as exhaust valves and glow-plugs.

Tungsten alloys find their place in automotive industry thanks to their high density. In race cars they ideally serve the purpose of balancing elements.
