Titanium Grade 1

(3.7025 / UNS R504007) is the first on the list of commercially pure titanium grades. It is an unalloyed titanium with the highest purity out of all ASTM grades. Although it is the softest titanium showing the lowest strength, this grade compensates it with the highest ductility in room temperature.

In comparison with other grades, it shows the greatest formability, excellent corrosion immunity, high impact toughness and it’s resistant to highly oxidizing and reducing environments also when exposed to chlorides.

TiGr1 is popular in constant operations applications, where temperatures reach up to 800°F (425°C); and in intermittent working conditions where temperatures reach up to 1000°F (540°C). It also exhibits good impact properties in low temperatures. Additionally, titanium grade 1 can be easily welded, cold- and hot- machined as well as cast.

Titaniun grade 1 is commonly available as sheets, plates and pipes, but is also in form of rods castings and elements of fittings.

Titanium grade 1 is popular in chemical processing, including chlorate manufacturing and desalination processes. Due to its properties, this grade becomes more and more popular in the automotive industry, especially for performance racing ehxaust systems. The use of titanium grade 1 may reduce the mass of an entire structure by 40%.

Thermal treatment
Soft annealing 600°C – 700°C
Stress relief heat treatment 450°C – 600°C

Due to titanium’s tendency to oxidation, which causes increased brittleness, heat treatment of titanium requires a protective gas atmosphere or a vacuum..
